TUITION ARBITRAGE
A US college student is presented with two options: she can spend $30,000 to $80,000 per year obtaining a degree at a US college that may or may not be a big brand name; or she can spend a much smaller sum obtaining a degree at a non-US college and also pick up a language or two and some valuable international living experience along the way. As tuition in the United States has risen much faster than inflation (see chart from the American Enterprise Institute) and admissions to top-name schools have become more reserved for a few groups based on legacy and identity, the foreign proposition is getting more attention from many applicants and their parents.
