TV ANCHOR PRIMA DONNAS

When on the same day Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon are both given the heave-ho off their perches at Fox News and CNN respectively, you have to pause and ask what is really going on in cable news. Carlson and Lemon have been delighting and tormenting viewers for years and had become two among the many prima donnas that populate prime time TV news. For the record, Macmillan defines prima donna as "someone who thinks that they are very important or special, and who is very difficult to please."

Lemon was given a hint last year that all was not well when he was moved from a 9pm prime time slot to the morning show. He insisted at the time that this was not a demotion, a blind spot that left him wallowing in his self-image but that eventually led to his downfall. Meanwhile Carlson had specialized, as many before him, in a brand of "analysis" that can be charitably described as highly selective and designed mainly to maximize his own income.
