The US presidential election will take place in five short months. The outcome will hinge on a handful of swing states where urban democrats and suburban/rural republicans more or less offset each other. It is useful to see therefore how the political makeup of the population may have changed in each of these states since the election of 2020. The chart shows the POPULATION GROWTH IN BIDEN COUNTIES VS. TRUMP COUNTIES since 2020. Except in North Carolina, counties that voted for Biden four years ago saw a larger population increase than counties that voted for Trump. If we assume (perhaps a big assumption) that new arrivals in a Biden county are more likely to be Biden voters, these population increases improve Biden’s odds of winning in November.
